Whats in a name...??
This morning I was calling Citibank for some issue I needed to sort out. I have always had pretty decent customer service experience whenever I have called them. More often than not, I have been routed to a call center in India. I cannot say anything negative about the experience. The only thing I always wonder about is, why do they make the reps call themselves by names like Roger, Bill, Pam, Karen? I know that a name like Sashidhar or Vipasana might be hard for an American to grasp, but do they need to give names at all? If someone really wants to know the name of the rep, they can ask, and if they are asking, then they probably care enough to maybe know the real name. I just wonder, how it must feel to Srinivas to be John for 8-10 hours every night. I wonder if it makes him feel unlike himself.

I had a fun lil run in with Dell Canada a few years back. Ended up talking to their team manager 'Robin' and on asking for his email for the confirmation .. it was kprashant@dell.com. Tore a strip off his back i did. mean, but after 2.5 hrs on hold, i was a lil peeved. ;-)
LOL.. Knock on wood, I have been pretty lucky with customer service. I had issues only once and that was because the person was aggravatingly slow. He talked slowly and had gigantic pauses between words..
he was just being articulate ;-)
I would have hated having to give people a fake name when working in customer service! However, I did consider it occasionally when I got tired of spelling my name at least twice for every phone call! "A","n", "u"...somehow that wasn't simple enough. I would have resigned myself to Ann if there wasn't already an Ann in customer service! =)
Very cool blog !
Anu - LOL.. I remember you telling me about the whole Anu = A New
Anu Car ..or A new car.
Jasleen - Thanks, cool name :D
